From Panther to OS 9 and back again

I installed Panther this weekend, and one of the first things I had to do was to switch back to the little visited land of OS 9, as both Photoshop and Illustrator plainly refused to run, both quitting on startup in the new OS.

Preoccupied as I were with pinkeye and ondska I tried to troubleshoot the usual way - trashing preferences, resolving font conflicts, applying 0.1 updates, that sort of thing. But to no avail. I think I did try to search the web for an answer, but I didn’t find anything.
That was yesterday.
Today I tried all the things I tried yesterday again, and finally I found some useful information - there was other people out there with the same dilemma.

Although advice seem to focus around a complete reinstall with writing zeros whilst spanking yourself with finnish birch branches, someone hinted at a solution that was going to be slighly less painful - simply remove the Workflow folder from the Adobe folder in Application Support, located in one or more of the the Library folders - and you should be good to go.

It worked for me.

Anniversary

Eljestwhere is one today.

How time flies. How little I have to say about this celebrious event.
How I wish my seized up eye would recover from it’s flu-induced state of clogged-up uselessness and start serving me properly again, so that I could start thinking about anything else.

(And yes, of course I worry that I, like Laura Ingalls sister, will end up blind in a few weeks)

On November Beards

I’ve been observing the golden rule of letting yur beard grow during the month of November, we’re almost halfway through, and so far, it’s been plain sailing.

If you need inspiration, and some solidarity, look no further than to the classic November Beard Club or the more recent 2003 Beard Contest

Comment Spam

A lot of people have been moaning about comment spam lately.
I figured that since I wasn’t getting any, these pages were too obscure, unread and unlinked-to to be of interest to any penile enlargement vendor, but the dozen comments received this morning proved me wrong.

My theory - that the more spam you got, the more popular you were - seem to have crumbled. Eljestwhere’s popularity hasn’t changed - but now it’s drowning in comments about the benefits of Penis Pills.

A quick install of MT-Blacklist and the banning of some particularly notorious IP addresses seems to have calmed things down a little.
Back to obscure normality for now.

mr Walker

mrO has started to walk.
Now nothing is safe anymore, he’s like a 30 pound baby Godzilla roaming through the house, saying “heya, heya” as he’s crushing everything in his way.

one hundred pictures

The moblog celebrates its 100’th picture today - to celebrate we’re sporting a new, more tiled style over at the archive page. And what better motif to celebrate than a snap of the harris tweed.

For the Birds

Feeding the Ducks is the new pass-time of choice, overtaking going to the swings as the number one outdoor pursuit. This morning I took mrT to Stephens Green in Dublin to throw bits of bread at our feathered friends.

As we approached the pond, we saw that we weren’t the only ones who had had this idea. A little girl about five years old, wearing a hat that wouldn’t have looked out of place on the set of “Little House on the Prairie”, was already passing out stale bread to the congregated pigeons.

mrT, true to form, started running around trying to kick the pigeons, that instead of making a flying escape just moved dozily out of the way.

The little girl wasn’t pleased however. Sincerely, and with great passion, she approached and told me:

“These birds are tiny Gods creatures.
Tell the little boy not to kick tiny Gods creatures.”
After a short while she continued:
“In fact, don’t ever bring him here again, bring him to Arnott’s instead, because there he can’t kick tiny Gods creatures.”
