Ask the Mountie

Is maple syrup really made from maple leaves?

Is maple syrup really made from maple leaves?

Doug

Dear Doug

The leaves of the Maple tree make good compost when they decompose, whilst seeds of the tree spin like helicopters when they fall, and can be attached to your nose for comic effect. You can’t make maple syrup out of either of these.

The sap of the tree is where the Maple Syrup comes from. It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup. A gallon of pure Maple syrup weighs 11 pounds.

A gallon of Maple Syrup covers over a thousand pancakes!
